Santa Maria City Could End Agreement With County Animal Services

Santa Maria City Officials looking to cut costs could end an agreement with Santa Barbara County Animal Services. Officials say the current contract with county animal services is going to cost Santa Maria 800,000 dollars this year. In order to reduce that amount by 200,000 dollars, they are looking at possibly hiring a private company or, train city employees to take over animal control services within city limits. County officials hope that whatever happens, the care of the animals remains the same.
