Rape, robbery and violent crime in San Luis Obispo has spiked over the past year. That’s according to a recently released report by the San Luis Obispo Police Department. The report points out that there were 52 reported rapes in 2018, a 41 percent jump from the year before. According to the Tribune, five of the 2018 sexual assaults are connected to former Uber Alfonso Alarcon-Nunez. He allegedly targeted intoxicated women used the Uber app for a safe ride home. The report also shows a two percent increase in overall crime with an eight jump in violent crime. While the increases can be a bit shocking, police officials believe San Luis Obispo is still a safe town.
