Morro Bay Considering Sales Tax To Cover Future Deficit

The city of Morro Bay is considering a sales tax to cover a nearly 2 million dollar budget gap. The City Council voted this week to authorize consultants to conduct studies and poll the public to determine if the community would support a sales tax on the November 2020 ballot. Officials say a 1 percent sales tax could generate roughly 2 million dollars a year. Adding that if the city doesn’t take steps now, it would be facing a 1.8 million dollar deficit in the city’s general fund in the next 10 years.
