A massive housing project near the San Luis Obispo Airport, that has been in the works for nearly a decade, has a new owner and ground breaking date. Avila Ranch is now in the hands of Wathen Castanos Homes. The 720-home project is slated to break ground early next year, with the first houses being completed in early 2021. The homes will have all-electric designs with solar panels to keep with the city’s new energy policy and 2020 state requirements to build with solar panels. Officials say, roughly 100 homes and apartments are specifically designated as affordable housing.
