The San Luis Obispo City Council is trying to decide whether or not to put a sales tax on the 2020 ballot. The city’s current sales tax is 7.75 cents. Adding 1.5 cents would help the city pay for issues that are considered by voters to be important to San Luis Obispo. According to the Tribune, Protecting creeks from pollution, Addressing homelessness, Maintaining police, fire and emergency responses, keeping public areas clean, and safe and requiring the funds to be used locally were considered to be top 5. Council members say more research needs to be done. A decision probably won’t come before May of next year.
