An affordable housing project in Guadalupe is getting ready to open. Farmworker advocates say apartment complexes like the Guadalupe Courts are needed to help keep local workers in the area. According to KSBY, applicants for the Guadalupe Courts have to earn a large portion of their income from farm labor because some of the funding for the project comes from the USDA. They also have to be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Some farmers feel projects like the Guadalupe Courts could help decrease labor shortages in the long run.
