Imagine going into your favorite store and asking to try something on and they say “sure… but it will cost ya.”  That is what many stores in the land down under are doing.

The retailers are coming up with what they are calling “try-on” charges because they complain that people are coming to the store see if they like the merchandise and then going home and purchasing the item on the internet.  The charges in some cases are $50. If you end up buying the merchandise then the fee is waived.

The retailers say they can’t compete with the tax free prices that the online retailers can offer.

Is this something we could start seeing in the states?
