Drone Halts Fire Air Support

A wind-driven vegetation fire and rough terrain were just a couple of things that kept Lompoc Firefighters busy yesterday afternoon. The fire was first reported before 1 o’clock and was 100 percent contained by 8 last night. It turns out that the steep terrain and windy conditions weren’t the biggest problems firefighters had to deal with. Firefighters got help from the air, but the air support was halted due because someone was flying their drone in the area. Officials say the drone put firefighters in the air and on the ground in danger. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
