Feud Between Neighbors Has Wine Maker Facing Charges

An ongoing feud between neighbors has the founder of Tobin James Cellars facing criminal charges. According to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office Tobin James Shumrick used a shotgun to shoot out the tires of a neighbor’s golf cart. According to the New Times, 41-year-old Gabriel Canaday and the golf cart were trespassing on Shumrick’s winery property at the time of the incident. Sheriff’s officials say, up to that point, Canaday had several run-ins with deputies, being arrested 18 times since April of last year. He also had a history of violating restraining orders and failing to appear in court. Shumrick’s attorney says the shooting was self-defense. he has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
