Murder Charges For D.U.I. Driver

The Santa Barbara County D.A.’s Office announced murder charges yesterday against a man accused of causing a deadly crash in Santa Maria. The March 16th crash took the lives of two young women from Atascadero. 17-year-old Madison Coleman and 20-year-old Monica Gonzalez died in the crash. Investigators say 27-year-old Javier Cortez was driving over 100 miles an hour, with a blood alcohol level over .15 at the time of the crash. He was able to post bail shortly after the crash. But the judge raised his bail to 2 million dollars and was taken back into custody. He’s due back in court next month.
