Overdose Deaths In California Jails On The Rise Including San Luis Obispo

County Jails up and down the state of California are dealing with a growing number of overdoses. Friday afternoon an inmate was found unresponsive in his bunk at the San Luis Obispo County Jail. Staff used Narcan and CPR to try to revive 56-year-old Ernest Ortiz. He would later be pronounced dead. A short time later, another inmate collapsed from an apparent drug overdose, but he survived. Just last week, 18 people including inmates and deputies were treated for suspected opioid overdoses at the Santa Barbara County Jail.
