Sick Sea Lion Attacks Teen

A large number of sea lions are being found sick from a toxin naturally produced in algae along the Central Coast. One of those sea lions attacked a 13-year-old Paso Robles girl who was spending a day at Pismo Beach. Scientists at the California State Parks say, if you see a sick sea lion, keep your distance. A majority of the sick sea lions are infected with domoic acid toxicosis. Officials with The Marine Mammal Center in San Luis Obispo say, if you see a sick sea lion, be sure to keep your distance – don’t touch it and call The Marine Mammal Center at 415-289-SEAL.
