A former Santa Maria resident will be sending some time in federal prison. 30-year-old Jordan Gerbich pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor count of the taking of a marine mammal. Prosecutors say he shot an elephant seal to death in 2019. According to the Tribune, Gerbich, who now lives in Utah, was sentenced to three months in federal prison and ordered to pay a 1,000 dollar fine.
