If you’re planning on heading out to the Carrizo Plain to marvel at the super-bloom this weekend, keep in mind the roads are still muddy. The CHP has reported that it has received a number of calls about cars being stuck in the mud. Because the roads throughout the monument are dirt, many become impassable when periods of heavy rain turn them into mud. Officials say that Soda Lake Road is the only road that is paved and open year-round. Other roads in the area can take weeks to dry out.
