ACLU Claims SLO Sheriff’s Office Sharing Info With Feds

A recent report by the American Civil Liberties Union claims the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s office may have been sharing license plate information with immigration officers. According to KSBY, the information is collected by a program called Vigilant. It allows authorities to collect license plate information using scanners that sit on top of a law enforcement vehicle. The ACLU claims sharing such information would be a violation of California’s sanctuary state law. The Sheriff’s Office says it has one license plate reader and it’s used to counter drug smuggling and human trafficking.
