Lompoc Community Members Ask To Vote On 1 Percent Sales Tax Increase

The City of Lompoc is currently facing a nearly 4 million dollar budget gap and city leaders are at standstill on how to fix the problem. Some community members want the City Council to approve a one percent sales tax increase. The city’s finance director says the increase could generate close to 5 million dollars a year. Attendees of a “Give Us The Vote” rally held yesterday before the city council meeting want the tax measure put on the next ballot. Lompoc police and fire department officials say they may have to make significant cuts if the city can’t come up with a plan.
