NCAA sanctions placed on Cal Poly are going to be upheld. The sanctions came after college officials reported that an accounting error had given 256 student-athletes an $800 book stipend between 2012 and 2013. Cal Poly Athletics was penalized with two years probation, a $5,000 fine and a vacation of records. Cal Poly Athletic Director Don Oberhelman sent out a release saying, in part, he felt the NCAA was punishing the student-athletes over a minor accounting error and doesn’t compare to other significant cases that involve actual acts of impropriety and cheating. The decision does not impact any current student-athletes.
