Dave Mason has gathered together a group of all-star friends to record his signature song, “Feelin’ Alright.”

Calling themselves Dave Mason and The Quarantines, he is joined by Sammy HagarMick FleetwoodMichael McDonald and, from The Doobie Brothers, John McFeeTom Johnston and Pat Simmons. The common thread is most of them have or had homes on Maui.

Mason was 22 when he wrote the song on the Greek island of Hydra for the second Traffic album. “Who would have thought that this would go on to be covered by so many different artists and bands, you just never know,” says Mason. “But what I do know today is that people need some hope and comfort and especially music, which is why I called up some friends to re-record a special version of the song. To do this remotely was somewhat challenging, hence the name ‘The Quarantines’, but the spirit of strength, hope and heart prevail.”

Commenting on his participation, Hagar says, “I’ve always been a fan of Dave Mason since Traffic. He’s written some classics that I’ve cut my teeth on…learning how to play and write songs myself. ‘Feelin’ Alright’ is one of my favorites. And this is a pretty damn cool version.”

Among those who have covered the song are Joe Cocker, The Jackson Five, Lou Rawls, John Belushi, Three Dog Night, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Grand Funk Railroad, ELO, Freddie King, Widespread Panic, The Black Crowes and many more.

Want more to binge on right now? Check out this throwback! Mason did the song with Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi of Traffic when the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Joining in for that performance were Keith Richards, Tom Petty, ZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill, Jackson Browne, Jeff Lynne and The Temptations.
