FBI And ATF Joins Search For Shooting Suspect

The FBI and ATF are working with investigators Paso Robles to identify the person who shot a sheriff’s deputy early yesterday morning. Authorities say the gunman opened fire at the Paso Robles police station and as officers responded, he shot at police cars and wounded a deputy. Sheriff Ian Parkinson said, “One of the deputies was shot in the head, the second deputy who was with him began defending his partner returned fire to the shooter and protecting his downed officer.” The deputy was last reported to be in serious but stable condition. The suspect, 26-year-old Mason James Lira, a homeless man from the Monterey area is still on the run and considered armed and dangerous.
