CHP officers arrested a man after he led them on a dramatic car chase. It started Friday afternoon when Pismo Beach Police notified the CHP about a stolen black Ford pickup in Nipomo. According to the CHP’s Facebook post, when they tried to stop the truck, the driver sped away to Highway 166 and then old Sierra Madre Road in the Los Padres National Forest. A CHP helicopter crew used its P.A. system, trying to alert the driver that the road ahead was ending. The suspect drove off the road, 2,000 feet down a hill before crashing in a ravine. He was taken into custody after leading officers on a brief foot chase.
