Lompoc firefighters have some new, potentially life-saving, equipment thanks to a grant from Homeland Security. The department has received new ballistic gear and rope equipment thanks to a more than 21,000 dollar grant. Meanwhile, a FEMA grant intended for earthquake upgrades has been taken away after a consultant discovered how much work needed to be done to the fire station to make it safe. Officials are now looking for alternative funding sources for the upgrades.
