Cal Fire SLO investigators have released the cause of the McMillan Fire that charred more than 1700 acres near Shandon last week. Officials say the blaze was accidentally started by equipment used to harvest hay in the area. The fast-moving fire started on Wednesday afternoon and was fully contained by Thursday night. But not before closing a section of Highway 46 east of McMillan Canyon Road. It was just one of the numerous fires that crews were called out to across San Luis Obispo’s North County.
