A new study on the economic impact of the decommissioning of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant was released yesterday. The report by U.C. Berkeley revealed the closure would have an 800 million dollar negative impact on the county, far less than the originally estimated 1 billion dollars in annual losses. Other impacts included in the study were the loss of head of household jobs that would force nearly 3,000 people to find work out of the area. A public forum is scheduled for tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors chambers.
