Cal Fire firefighters were called out to a report of a vegetation fire near Shandon yesterday afternoon. Officials say the Gillis Fire broke out at around 2:45 near South Gillis Road east of Paso Robles. The flames were attacked from the air and on the ground by roughly 200 firefighters. Officials say by 6 p.m., more than 1000 acres had been scorched forward progress of the flames had been stopped and mop-up operations were underway. The cause is currently under investigation.
