Tens of millions of Americans are expected to receive a check this week as part of a stimulus package to revive the nation amid the coronavirus pandemic. ABC’s Aaron Katersky tells us scam artists are also waiting. He says any crisis is an opportunity for a scam. Donna Harris at the US Postal Inspection Service said coronavirus stimulus checks are a lucrative target. She says “to get it earlier or to deposit it quicker and get your money faster send x amount of dollars”. It’s a particular problem for paper checks that do not arrive by direct deposit, She added, “it’s just a new variation on an old scam similar to lottery and sweepstakes here’s a check to keep this check you’ve got to send money for taxes and fees”.
