Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department is closing all the city sports fields. Department officials say they are trying to encouraging social distancing. Staff members have placed metal-framed signs in the center of the fields to discourage large sports groups from playing in the fields. City parks will remain open and residents can still go to the sports fields, just not in large groups.
