Santa Maria Facing 10 Million Dollar Deficit

Santa Maria City officials say they are facing more than 10 million dollars in lost revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials point out that lost sales tax, transient occupancy tax and other programs that generate revenue for the city, have fallen off dramatically. Santa Maria has already declared a local emergency and has put a freeze on hiring and furloughed 93 hourly workers. City officials say they are looking at several ways to cut costs.
