Paul Flores and his father Ruben made their first court appearance yesterday to be arraigned on a charge of murder and accessory, respectively. Neither entered a plea. The arraignment was continued until Monday afternoon. Paul Flores’ defense attorney, concerned about his client’s right to a fair trial, made a motion for a protective order in the case, prohibiting extrajudicial statements. The judge granted the motion. Meanwhile, Sheriff Ian Parkinson was interviewed by Coast 104.5’s Adam Montiel and confirmed that the search for Kristin Smart was ongoing.
