30 Distracted Driving Tickets In 5 Hours

San Luis Obispo Police have been cracking down on distracted driving, specifically, drivers on their cell phones. Yesterday three officers were tasked with finding drivers using their cell phones while driving. Between 7 a.m. and noon, the officers wrote roughly 30 citations. It’s illegal in the state of California to use your hand-held cell phone while driving. It carries a fine of 162 dollars for a first offense and a minimum of 285 dollars for the second ticket. According to the California Highway Patrol, 66 People died and more than 6500 were injured by driving distracted.
